Brighton boss hints Minteh could join Liverpool

Published 5 September 2026

Brighton Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has indicated that winger Yankuba Minteh could still make a transfer to Liverpool in a future transfer window, potentially as early as January 2027. Liverpool pursued the 22-year-old Gambian international during the recent summer transfer window, submitting multiple offers that were ultimately rejected by Brighton. The Premier League club reportedly made bids of approximately £50 million and £60 million for Minteh, but Brighton held firm, seeking a valuation closer to £70 million. Minteh, who joined Brighton from Newcastle United two years ago, has become a key player for the Seagulls. He has made 73 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists, and is also noted for his chance creation and dribbling ability. Despite the failed summer move, Hurzeler stated that Minteh remains committed to Brighton. He suggested that if Minteh and the team achieve success in the coming months, the player could attract significant attention from other clubs, potentially allowing him to "fulfill his dream" of joining a larger club.
