BRICS Summit: Delhi Tightens Security, Traffic

New Delhi is implementing extensive security and traffic control measures as it prepares to host the 18th BRICS Summit from September 11 to 13, 2026. The summit, centered at Bharat Mandapam, will bring together leaders and delegations from the expanded bloc, now comprising eleven member nations and partner countries. Authorities have announced a significant security deployment, with approximately 7,000 personnel from the Delhi Police, paramilitary forces, National Security Guard (NSG), Intelligence Bureau, and Special Protection Group (SPG) set to manage law and order, security, and antiterrorism protocols. A multilayered security system will be in place around the summit venue and along key routes connecting the airport and hotels, featuring constant surveillance, technical monitoring, and vigilance against aerial threats. Enhanced security measures are also being implemented at approximately 10 major hotels hosting delegates and 12 other critical locations across the city. To facilitate the movement of dignitaries, the Delhi Traffic Police have imposed strict curbs on over 35 major roads and identified 22 diversion points from September 11 to 13.
