Bombay High Court warns Vijay Mallya over social media posts

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday warned businessman Vijay Mallya against posting court documents on social media while his money laundering case remains pending, saying such conduct undermines the efficacy of the court. Justice Milind Jadhav issued the caution after Enforcement Directorate lawyer Ashish Mehta told the bench that Mallya had uploaded the agency's affidavit on his social media accounts before it was formally submitted to the court. According to the ED, the affidavit was filed on September 8 and served to Mallya's legal team the same day, with the matter scheduled for hearing on September 9. The agency's counsel said Mallya shared the document on X that same evening. "This is not good conduct. This is serious. Please warn him Mallya against doing so in future. Whatever he wants to submit he can do so in court," the court said, asking senior advocate Amit Desai, appearing for Mallya, to caution his client. "Please make your client understand, this is not the way to do it....it undermines the efficacy of the court," Justice Jadhav added. Desai assured the court that the message would be conveyed to his client. He also noted that the ED routinely posts about Mallya.
