BMW 3 Series Next Generation Details Emerge

BMW is preparing to launch the eighth generation of its iconic 3 Series sports sedan for the 2027 model year, signaling a continued commitment to internal combustion engines alongside its expanding electric vehicle lineup. The upcoming model will feature updated styling, advanced interior technology, and a range of powerful petrol powertrains, including a high-performance M350 xDrive variant. The M350 xDrive, set to replace the M340i xDrive, will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine enhanced by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This setup is expected to produce approximately 443 horsepower and 580 Newton-meters of torque, a significant increase over its predecessor. This power output is anticipated to enable the M350 xDrive to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.1 seconds. A key new feature for this performance variant is the "Drift Moment" mode, which allows the driver to decouple the front axle and send all power to the rear wheels, effectively transforming the all-wheel-drive sedan into a rear-wheel-drive machine for spirited driving. This functionality is expected to be made available via an over-the-air software update sometime in 2027.
