Blast to Wind Down Ethereum Layer 2 Network

Published 2 October 2026

Blast’s team announced on October 2 that it will wind down the Ethereum Layer 2 network, saying the cost of maintaining it now exceeds the revenue it generates and that the team sees no credible path to economic sustainability. The announcement sets out a withdrawal process for users, with the ordinary Blast interface scheduled to remain available through October 26, 2026. The team asked users to move assets to Ethereum mainnet, including balances held in Blast’s progressive web app. Withdrawals are expected to pause for about a week while the team unwinds assets held through Lido, a liquid staking protocol. The team says withdrawals will resume after that process with a 24-hour delay. After October 26, users will no longer be able to withdraw through Blast’s regular interface. The team says remaining assets will still be recoverable by interacting directly with Blast’s bridge contracts on Ethereum, and it plans to publish instructions before the interface deadline. These are announced arrangements; the supplied reports do not confirm that the withdrawal pause or later steps have already taken place.
