BitMEX Ends Trading After More Than 11 Years
BitMEX ended all trading services at 0400 UTC on September 23, closing the exchange after more than 11 years in operation. The company said remaining open positions would be settled automatically using applicable contract prices or indices, with the resulting funds added to customers’ wallet balances. The shutdown followed a staged withdrawal of the platform’s trading products. BitMEX had already ended trading in major Bitcoin and Ethereum derivatives on September 16, spot markets on September 21, and its conversion service on September 22. At the final cutoff, customers could no longer open or manage positions through the exchange. Trading has stopped, but BitMEX says former customers can still sign in to view balances and transaction histories and request withdrawals through its website. The company warned that deposits sent after the shutdown deadline may not be credited and could be unrecoverable. It has also warned users to beware of messages promising faster withdrawals, saying it does not provide a priority service. BitMEX says verified accounts with remaining funds may incur monthly fees.
