Bihar UP Rivers Above Danger Levels Amid Floods

Floodwaters have inundated large swathes of Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh, with several major rivers breaching danger levels and prompting widespread alerts and rescue operations. In Bihar, the flood situation continued to worsen on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as eight major rivers, including the Ganga, Son, and Punpun, flowed above their respective danger marks. The rising waters have affected normal life across 13 districts in Bihar, with the state capital, Patna, placed on high alert. The Ganga River at Gandhi Ghat in Patna was measured at 127 centimeters above its danger mark, while at Digha Ghat, it was 61 centimeters above. The Punpun River at Shripalpur had risen approximately 2.01 meters above its danger mark, with floodwaters entering nearby homes. In the Son River, the release of over 5.54 lakh cusecs of water from the Indrapuri Barrage has led to rapid inundation in riverine areas like Maner, Danapur, Bakhtiyarpur, and Mokama. Authorities deployed 12 government boats to evacuate residents stranded in affected areas.
