Benue Governor Condemns Attack Killing 11, Commends DSS Arrests
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned a deadly attack on the Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area that killed 11 people, including four police officers, and commended the Department of State Services for arresting three suspects in connection with the incident. The attack occurred on the evening of September 10, 2026, and was reportedly repelled by security operatives after a gun battle lasting about seven hours, according to the Benue State Police Command. The police statement, issued on September 11, confirmed the casualties and noted that several people were injured, with many others reportedly unaccounted for. In a statement released on September 12 by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the assault as a "despicable act" and a "grave threat to the security and stability of Benue State." He specifically highlighted the loss of the four law enforcement officers, calling it a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by security personnel and the persistent insecurity facing vulnerable communities in the area.
