Bellamy defends Wales commitment after rejecting Burnley move

Wales manager Craig Bellamy has publicly defended his commitment to the national team after rejecting a summer move to manage Championship club Burnley. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Wales' upcoming Nations League fixtures, Bellamy stated he turned down the opportunity because Wales was the right place for him and his family. Bellamy confirmed the Football Association of Wales granted permission for him to speak to Burnley in June after the club triggered a compensation clause. He described the approach as flattering but said he ultimately decided to stay. "I had a decision to make and I made it. It didn't break down. I said no, it's not for me," Bellamy stated. "I made the decision to stay because this is the right place for me." The 47-year-old, who is under contract until the end of Euro 2028, addressed criticism from some fans who were disappointed he entertained the move. He pointed to his history of actions to prove his loyalty, including instructing solicitors to secure his release to play for Wales in Euro 2004 qualifiers after his club Newcastle tried to prevent him.
