Belgium FA withdraws support for Infantino bid

The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) announced on Monday, September 7, 2026, that it will not support FIFA President Gianni Infantino's bid for re-election. The decision stems from concerns over transparency and governance, specifically citing the handling of a red card suspension for U.S. Men's National Team striker Folarin Balogun during the 2026 World Cup and the now-abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative. The RBFA stated that FIFA has failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the decision to suspend Balogun's one-match ban for a red card received against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Balogun was subsequently allowed to play in the round of 16 match against Belgium, a decision that Belgium formally challenged. According to the RBFA, despite explicit requests for justification and details on future handling of similar situations, no satisfactory response has been received two months after the incident. The Belgian federation has requested that the Balogun case be added to the agenda for the FIFA Council meeting scheduled for October 15, 2026.
