BCCI plans long-term strategy for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is implementing a meticulous long-term strategy for 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, aiming to cultivate a career akin to that of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated on September 4, 2026, that the board is closely monitoring the young player's progress from every angle to ensure his development leads to a sustained international career rather than a brief period of success. "We want Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or any player of his stature to continue and serve like Sachin Tendulkar did for the country or other players who in the past became legends," Saikia told reporters following a BCCI review meeting in Mumbai. He emphasized the board's caution, adding, "We are very cautious that every right step he should take forward so that it should not be a one series or one year wonder." Sooryavanshi has already achieved significant milestones at an exceptionally young age. He became India's youngest international debutant during a T20I series against England earlier in 2026. He followed this by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in international cricket.
