BBC and Netflix announce new 'Cunk on Cinema' series

The BBC and Netflix have announced a new three-part mockumentary series titled 'Cunk on Cinema,' starring Diane Morgan as her iconic character Philomena Cunk. The series, described as Cunk's 'most glamorous series to date,' will see the satirical documentarian turn her deadpan, ill-informed interview style toward the world of film. The production is a co-production between the BBC and Netflix, with the series set to debut on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two in the UK and Ireland, and on Netflix internationally. No release date has been announced. The series will feature interviews with a range of Hollywood and film industry figures. Confirmed participants include director Michael Bay, actor Benedict Cumberbatch, composer Daniel Pemberton, screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey. The lineup also includes film critics Mark Kermode, Helen O'Hara, and Catherine Bray, as well as former Academy president David Rubin. According to the official synopsis, the series will explore cinema history from the invention of the camera to the French New Wave of the 1960s, and will examine the impact of CGI and the future of AI on filmmaking.
