Batman-costumed partygoer helps recover handbag in Norwich

A woman’s handbag was recovered with all its contents intact after Sonni Mason, dressed as Batman for a party, joined a pursuit in Norwich on September 19, Norfolk Police said. Mason and other partygoers helped locate the bag after it went missing during an incident outside a bar, and Mason climbed a wall near Norwich Cathedral to retrieve it. Police said officers on routine nighttime patrols in Norwich were approached by a member of the public seeking help to find a missing bag. After making inquiries at the scene, officers located it and returned it to its owner. The police account did not identify a suspect or say whether anyone was arrested. Mason, 25, said a man in a queue outside a bar had accused two women of taking cigarettes and then allegedly grabbed a handbag. Mason and several friends in fancy-dress costumes pursued the man, according to accounts attributed to Mason. The suspected snatcher was no longer with the bag when the group caught up with the trail. Mason said a tipoff led the group to the handbag on a wall near the cathedral. He climbed up and retrieved it, and the bag was returned to its owner.
