Baba-Ahmed Obi's ADC move fractured partnership

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has revealed that his political partnership with Peter Obi began to fracture after Obi ignored his advice against joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election. Baba-Ahmed, who ran alongside Obi in the 2023 presidential election, stated that he warned Obi that the ADC was not the right political platform for him. During an appearance on the MIC ON Podcast, Baba-Ahmed recounted personally intervening with Obi, meeting him at the YarAdua Centre to express his concerns. He described the move as Obi leaving his "comfort zone" and indicated that this decision marked a turning point in their relationship, after which he could no longer offer assistance. Baba-Ahmed pointed to Obi's subsequent departure from the ADC within four months as validation of his initial reservations. Baba-Ahmed also offered a broad assessment of the political landscape for the upcoming 2027 elections, stating that none of the current contenders possess the capacity to improve Nigeria.
