Ayotte wins NH GOP primary, faces Warmington

Incumbent New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte secured the Republican nomination for a second term on Tuesday, setting up a general election contest against Democratic nominee Cinde Warmington. Ayotte easily defeated two primary challengers, Shaun Fife and Bob Wayne McClory, who each received less than 5 percent of the vote. Warmington advanced without opposition as the sole Democrat on the ballot. The general election is scheduled for November 3. August polling from the University of New Hampshire indicated Ayotte held a lead over Warmington, approximately 49 percent to 39 percent. Ayotte, who previously served as a U.S. senator and is currently in her first term as governor, has centered her campaign on public safety, low taxes, and addressing housing costs. She has emphasized maintaining New Hampshire's status as a state without an income or sales tax. Her legislative record includes efforts to roll back bail reform, restrict student cellphone use in public schools, and increase penalties for refusing Breathalyzer tests.
