Authorities search for teen, father after newborn's death in California

Published 3 September 2026

Authorities in Monterey County, California, are searching for a 14-year-old girl and her 38-year-old father, Sergio Galvez Perez, in connection with the death of a newborn baby found along a rural roadside on August 1. The infant, whom investigators have named Baby Angelita, was discovered on the 100 block of Struve Road near Moss Landing with the umbilical cord still attached. Fire personnel confirmed the child was deceased at the scene. A forensic examination determined the newborn had signs of traumatic injury. Detectives believe the 14-year-old gave birth on the side of the road, placed the baby on the ground, and left the area. A Superior Court judge has issued an arrest warrant for the juvenile on suspicion of murder. Investigators allege that Perez is the biological father of both the teenager and the infant. He is wanted on multiple charges, including intrafamily abuse, lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, lewd acts with a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, child concealment, and child endangerment. Authorities believe Perez is concealing his daughter and preventing law enforcement from locating her.
