At least 21 killed in South Africa highway crash

At least 21 people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on South Africa's N1 highway on Sunday night, with authorities warning the death toll may rise as emergency services continue their assessment of the scene. According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the crash began when two minibus taxis collided head-on. An SUV then crashed into the wreckage. The incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. Police confirmed that three of the victims were rushed to a hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival. The N1 highway was closed at the crash site as emergency teams worked at the scene. The RTMC has launched an official investigation into the accident. Officials emphasized that the current casualty figure is provisional and could change as the assessment continues. In a separate incident on Monday morning, a woman was killed and 13 others injured in a crash involving three minibus taxis on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Cape Town.
