ASUU declares indefinite strike at three Lagos universities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared an indefinite strike at three Lagos State-owned universities, shutting down academic activities over the state government's failure to implement a 2025 federal agreement. The affected institutions are Lagos State University, the Lagos State University of Education, and the Lagos State University of Science and Technology. The ASUU Joint Campus Group announced the industrial action on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, stating it took effect immediately. The decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government on August 31, 2026, and a final warning on September 10, with a September 13 deadline passing without dialogue. ASUU's primary demand is the full domestication and implementation of the December 2025 agreement reached between the union and the Federal Government. The union specified that this includes the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and welfare provisions for serving and retired academic staff. The strike will remain in force until the Lagos State Government engages with the union and fully implements the applicable provisions of the agreement.
