Ash Panesar recast returns to EastEnders
Ash Panesar is set to return to Albert Square this autumn, with actress Sakira Vel taking over the role. The character, previously portrayed by Gurlaine Kaur Garcha, first appeared on the BBC One soap in 2019 and departed for Canada in March 2023. Her return is expected to stir up family drama, particularly for her mother, Suki Panesar-Unwin. Ash, the daughter of Suki and the late Nish Panesar, was a significant presence during her initial tenure. Her storylines included navigating a rocky romance with Iqra Ahmed and facing tensions with her mother over her identity and choices. Suki eventually encouraged Ash to forge her own path, leading to her departure. While away, Ash became engaged and was reportedly thriving in Canada. Her father, Nish Panesar, died on January 1, 2025, following an altercation. Meanwhile, Suki has since married Eve Unwin and the couple are fostering a child. The recast has been met with enthusiasm from the production team. Executive Producer Ben Wadey stated, "We're delighted to welcome Ash back to Walford and to have Sakira Vel join the EastEnders cast.
