Artemis II Commander and Pilot Move to Emeritus Status

Three astronauts from NASA's Artemis II mission are transitioning to new roles, with commander Reid Wiseman and pilot Victor Glover moving to emeritus status, while Canadian mission specialist Jeremy Hansen shifts to a reserve military role. NASA announced Wednesday that Wiseman and Glover will enter emeritus status in September, allowing them to continue supporting the agency as consultants and mentors. This new capacity will enable them to share their expertise for future Artemis missions, including preparations for Artemis III, scheduled for 2027. Victor Glover has also accepted a leadership position at California Polytechnic State University, effective September 1, where he will advise senior leadership on aerospace, education, research, and workforce strategies. Glover, a retired U.S. Navy captain, previously served as pilot on SpaceX's Crew-1 mission to the International Space Station. Reid Wiseman, also a retired Navy captain, previously commanded a mission aboard the International Space Station and served as NASA's chief astronaut.
