Arsenal rotate squad for Ipswich cup tie with Timber omitted

Published 15 September 2026

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made significant changes to his squad for the EFL Cup third-round tie against Ipswich Town, with key defender Jurrien Timber omitted as a precaution. The match at Portman Road on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, marks Arsenal's first appearance in this season's Carabao Cup. Timber, who recently returned from a long-term groin injury that caused him to miss the 2026 World Cup, was not included in the matchday squad. Reports indicate the decision is a precautionary measure to manage his recovery, with no suggestion of a new injury setback. The Dutch defender had only recently returned to first-team action, coming on as a substitute in Arsenal's 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland on Saturday. Arsenal are also without Ben White, who sustained a muscular injury during the first half of that victory over Sunderland. The extent of White's injury has not been officially confirmed. Centre-back William Saliba is also absent due to injury, while Cristhian Mosquera remains sidelined but is expected to return after the international break.
