Army to Deploy Small Nuclear Reactors at Five Bases

The U.S. Army announced on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, that it will invest up to $2.2 billion to deploy small nuclear reactors at five military bases, marking a significant step toward energy independence for the armed forces. The initiative, known as the Janus Program, will install more than 20 microreactors across the installations over a five-year period, with the first unit expected to be operational by September 30, 2028. The Army selected five companies to build and operate the reactors, each paired with a specific base. Antares Nuclear will install its reactor at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. BWXT Advanced Technologies will deploy at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.
