Archer eVTOL Completes 40-Mile California Flight

Archer Aviation's Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft successfully completed a piloted 40-mile roundtrip journey on September 8, 2026, connecting Hollister and Salinas municipal airports in California. The flight, part of the company's "No Roads" demonstration tour, reached speeds of 125 mph and a cruising altitude of 3,550 feet, with each leg of the journey taking approximately 12 minutes. This aerial transit is significantly faster than the 30 to 40 minutes typically required by car for the same route. The flights are being conducted in close collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to accumulate practical operational expertise. The demonstration tour is scheduled to continue across Northern California, with planned stops in Monterey, San Martin, San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco. Following this phase, Archer intends to conduct flights around Los Angeles before participating in the White House's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program across Texas, Florida, and New York.
