Apple Watch Series 12 to Feature Ceramic Case, Always-On Heart Tracking

Published 31 August 2026

Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 at a special press event on September 9, 2026, according to multiple reports. The new wearables are anticipated to feature incremental upgrades, including a return of the ceramic case option and enhanced health tracking capabilities, rather than a major design overhaul. The most significant external change appears to be the reintroduction of a ceramic case for the Series 12. Apple has tested both white and dark gray ceramic finishes, reminiscent of the high-end Edition model from 2017. Alongside the new case material, the company is preparing many new band colors and configurations. However, a broader redesign of the Apple Watch's silhouette is not expected this year. Reports indicate that while a more substantial redesign is in development, it is likely at least a year away. Internally, the new watches are poised to receive a faster processor, moving beyond the S10 chip that has powered the Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, and Ultra 3. This would mark the first performance upgrade for the Apple Watch in several years. The chip is expected to be labeled either S11 or S12.
