Apple Watch Audio Intelligence Features Emphasize Privacy

Apple has introduced a suite of new artificial intelligence features for its latest Apple Watch models, designed to process ambient audio for transcription and summarization while emphasizing privacy protections. The features, collectively called Audio Intelligence, are enabled by the new S11 chip in the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 and include Live Rewind and Siri Recap, which will be available in beta later this year. Live Rewind allows a user to double-press the Digital Crown to see a text transcription of the last 15 seconds of audio captured by the watch's microphone. Apple states that raw audio is processed in a Secure Enclave on the S11 chip, is never stored as a recording, and is immediately discarded after transcription. The feature emits an audible chime and shows a visual indicator on the watch when activated, intended to alert nearby people. Siri Recap provides a high-level summary of conversations throughout the day. According to Apple's technical documentation, a lightweight AI model on the S11 chip first detects if a conversation is happening before audio is processed.
