Apple Unveils iPhone Duo Foldable at $1,999

Published 10 September 2026

Apple has entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, its first book-style foldable iPhone, unveiled at the company's Surprise and Shine event on September 9, 2026. Hosted by new CEO John Ternus, the event marked Apple's first major form-factor change in more than a decade, with Ternus positioning the device as a bridge between phone and tablet. The iPhone Duo opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and features a roughly 5.4-inch outer screen in a passport-style design. It uses a titanium frame, Ceramic Shield glass, an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, and Touch ID in the side button rather than Face ID. Pricing starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model, rising to $3,199 for 2TB of storage. Preorders open on October 16, with sales beginning October 23. The device is eSIM-only worldwide, while the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max announced alongside it are eSIM-only in 12 countries, including the United States and Japan. Early hands-on impressions from the Apple Park event were largely positive.
