Apple Overhauls Health App With Longevity Tab and AI Insights

Published 17 September 2026

Apple has released a major redesign of its Health app in the iOS 27.2 developer beta, introducing new features like a Longevity tab, a Health Age metric, and AI-powered insights. The full public release is planned for later in 2026, not with the initial beta. The update, available to developers and testers, represents the most significant overhaul of the Health app since its debut. It introduces Apple Intelligence to interpret personal data, new tabs focused on immediate feedback and long-term trends, and partnerships that bring clinical-grade lab results directly into users' phones. A central feature is the Longevity tab, which analyzes trends across heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement, metabolic health, hearing, and nutrition. At its center sits Health Age, a metric that compares a user's biological markers against their chronological age. Calculations factor in Apple Watch data such as VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep duration, and heart rate variability, plus lab values like LDL cholesterol and A1c. The result shows whether a person's body appears younger or older than their years and flags which habits most influence that gap.
