Apple Intelligence Camera Summaries Require Costly iCloud Plans

Published 16 September 2026

Apple's new AI-powered security camera summaries, a key feature of the iOS 27 update, are now available but come with a significant cost tied to iCloud storage plans. The feature, which uses Apple Intelligence to generate text descriptions of motion alerts in the Home app, requires users to subscribe to a 2TB iCloud plan or higher, starting at $9.99 per month for a single camera. According to Apple's support documentation, the pricing scales steeply for multiple devices. A 6TB iCloud plan at $29.99 per month is required for AI summaries on two cameras, while the 12TB plan at $59.99 per month supports up to five cameras. Apple One Premier subscribers, who receive 2TB of storage as part of their $39.95 monthly bundle, are limited to using the feature on just one camera. This structure creates a notable discrepancy with existing HomeKit Secure Video recording limits. Under the current system, the same 2TB plan that supports only one AI summary allows for unlimited camera recordings. Users on the 2TB plan can record from multiple cameras but will only receive intelligent summaries for one of them.
