APC Wins Four of Five By-Elections in Nigeria

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Usman Kallamu has won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election in Nigeria, securing a decisive victory with 41,121 votes. The result was announced on September 20, 2026, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Professor Umar Gurama, at the Malam Sidi collation centre in Kwami Local Government Area. The by-election, held on September 19, 2026, was conducted to fill the House of Representatives seat vacant since the death of former representative Yaya Bauchi Tongo. It covered 903 polling units across 31 Registration Areas in Gombe, Kwami, and Funakaye Local Government Areas. A total of 47,301 votes were cast, with 46,551 declared valid and 750 rejected. Kallamu defeated candidates from the Labour Party, which polled 3,553 votes, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) with 872 votes, the New Nigeria Peoples Party with 707 votes, and the African Peoples Party with 298 votes. This victory is part of a broader set of by-elections where the APC won four of five contested seats across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, and Delta states on the same day.
