APC Lawmaker Defends Wike Amid Party Tensions

Published 17 September 2026

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a federal lawmaker from the All Progressives Congress, defended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday amid escalating tensions with party governors over Wike's political activities. Jibrin described Wike as an asset to the APC, emphasizing his sacrifices and support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on the matter, Jibrin stated that Wike has made significant contributions to the ruling party, including ensuring Rivers State became an APC stronghold and supporting the party in the FCT. He noted that the APC won five of six Area Councils in recent FCT elections due to Wike's efforts. "There is no APC member in Nigeria today that has not directly or indirectly benefited from the efforts of Wike," Jibrin said. Jibrin urged APC governors to regard Wike as one of their own and avoid public embarrassment. He advised that any disagreements should be resolved through private dialogue. "Wike is an asset to APC. I don't think Wike should be embarrassed at this moment with public statements," he added.
