Anthropic Releases Model Hardware Standard for AI Device Control

Anthropic announced on August 27, 2026, the release of a research preview for its Model Hardware Standard, a framework designed to enable artificial intelligence agents to safely and efficiently operate physical devices in scientific research and advanced manufacturing. The initiative, developed in collaboration with the HHMI Janelia Research Campus, is now accessible to an initial cohort of research labs and manufacturers. The Model Hardware Standard introduces a standardized interface for AI-driven control of hardware such as robotic arms, liquid handlers, microscopes, and quantum computing equipment.
