Anonymous Poll Labels LSU as Most Overhyped Team for 2026 Season

Published 3 September 2026

Lane Kiffin's first season as LSU head coach is already facing skepticism from his peers, with an anonymous poll of college football coaches labeling his Tigers as the "biggest fraud" and most overhyped team heading into the 2026 campaign. The poll, conducted by The Athletic's Bruce Feldman and published on September 3, 2026, surveyed 18 FBS coaches on various topics. LSU received seven votes in the category of which team is most overhyped, the highest total among all programs. The skepticism appears rooted in concerns about team chemistry and off-field distractions. "LSU. I think it'll be hard for them to build team chemistry," an anonymous SEC defensive coordinator told The Athletic. "I could see them imploding." Another coach, from the Mountain West, added, "I think all these things that are happening around LSU right now are gonna end up being too much of a distraction." These comments reference ongoing litigation to determine the eligibility of several players who joined the LSU roster as late additions after participating in NFL training camps.
