Andreeva beats Bartunkova to reach China Open final
Mirra Andreeva defeated Nikola Bartunkova 6-2, 6-2 in the China Open semifinal on October 10, advancing to the final of the Beijing tournament. The 19-year-old Russian, ranked fifth, will face either Zheng Qinwen or Elise Mertens, whose semifinal had yet to determine her opponent in the final account of Andreeva’s win. Andreeva took control early, racing to a 4-0 lead in the first set as Bartunkova double-faulted twice. The Czech player, ranked 34th, saved one match point before Andreeva converted the second. The match lasted 74 minutes. Andreeva said she aimed to play aggressively and try to stay brave against Bartunkova. She also said a game of Uno with her coach helped calm her nerves before the semifinal. Bartunkova made 20 unforced errors, while Andreeva hit 27 winners, according to the match report. The win followed Andreeva’s quarterfinal victory over compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova, whom she beat in two tiebreaks on October 8. That result sent Andreeva to her first Beijing semifinal. She had also faced Bartunkova at the 2026 US Open, where Andreeva won in straight sets, according to the tournament preview.
