Amir rules out Pakistan return

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has definitively closed the door on any future international return, stating that his acquisition of British citizenship and the resulting status as a local player in English domestic cricket legally prevent him from representing Pakistan again. In a recent interview, Amir explained that the conditions of playing as a local in competitions like the County Championship and The Hundred require him to sign a document confirming he will not play for another country. Amir, 34, who officially retired from international cricket on December 14, 2024, clarified that this is not a temporary pause but a final conclusion to his Pakistan career. "I am a British local now. When you play in competitions such as the County Championship and The Hundred as a local player, you have to sign a document stating that you cannot play for another country as a local. So, the Pakistan chapter I had before is now closed," Amir said in an interview with cricket journalist Muhammad Furqan Bhatti. The left-arm pacer obtained British citizenship through his wife, Narjis Khan, a process confirmed in June 2026.
