American Airlines matches $1,000 for employee Trump Accounts

Published 5 September 2026

American Airlines announced Monday it will match the federal government's $1,000 contribution to "Trump Accounts" for eligible employees' children, a new benefit designed to bolster long-term financial security for families. The airline also plans to offer pretax payroll deductions for these accounts starting in 2027. The matching contribution, announced on August 31, 2026, will provide an additional $1,000 from American Airlines for each eligible child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, who has established a Trump Account and qualifies for the federal government's initial $1,000 deposit. This match applies on a per-child basis. Beginning in 2027, American Airlines will allow eligible U.S.-based employees to direct up to $2,500 in pretax earnings annually into their dependent children's Trump Accounts. The airline estimates that approximately one-third of its nearly 140,000 global employees will be eligible for this payroll deduction option. Trump Accounts, formally known as 530A accounts, are tax-advantaged investment vehicles for children under 18.
