American Airlines Jet Blows Two Tires at O'Hare

Published 27 August 2026

An American Airlines jet blew two tires while taxiing for departure at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Wednesday, forcing passengers to deplane onto the tarmac and marking the fifth tire-related incident at the airport in August. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident involving Flight 3280, a Boeing 737-800 bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, and said it is investigating. According to the FAA, the tire failure occurred shortly after the aircraft pushed back from the gate around 1:30 p.m. local time. The pilot of a following aircraft noticed the problem and alerted air traffic control, which then notified the American Airlines crew. No injuries were reported.
