Amazon Debuts Sterling Bonds to Fund AI Expansion

Published 10 September 2026

Amazon has launched its first-ever sterling-denominated bond offering, a four-part deal structured with maturities ranging from three to 19 years. The sale marks another significant step in the technology giant's aggressive global borrowing strategy to fund its expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure. The offering adds British pounds to Amazon's multicurrency funding program, which has already seen the company issue debt in euros, Swiss francs, and Canadian dollars this year. Lead managers reported strong initial demand for the sterling bonds, with indications of more than £12 billion in interest for an offering expected to raise £4 billion. The deal is scheduled to price later on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Initial price guidance for the bonds was set at approximately 70 basis points over British government bonds for the three-year tranche, around 90 basis points for the six-year, about 105 basis points for the 12-year, and roughly 110 basis points for the longest 19-year maturity. This pricing reflects a normal premium for a company of Amazon's credit standing, according to market observers.
