Amazon Blocks Meta's Muse AI Agent From Shopping Platform

Amazon has blocked Meta's new AI assistant, Muse, from shopping on its platform, citing unauthorized access and security concerns. The block, which began on the evening of September 20, 2026, prevents users from using the agent to make purchases on Amazon.com. Users attempting to shop via Muse now see a popup stating that continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use. Amazon stated that Meta did not inform the company in advance that Muse would access its store. The company also raised specific objections, alleging that the agent does not identify itself while browsing and appears to capture and store customer credentials. Amazon's position is that third-party applications making purchases on behalf of customers should operate openly and respect a service provider's decision about participation. Meta has previously stated that Muse has no visibility into users' passwords or payment methods, and that any shared credentials are placed in secure storage for use without being seen. Meta did not respond to requests for comment on the block. The action escalates a broader conflict between Amazon and third-party AI agents.
