Alliance Air flight makes emergency landing in Delhi after engine failure

An Alliance Air flight from Prayagraj to Delhi made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday afternoon after one of its engines became inoperative during the approach. All 40 passengers and four crew members on board disembarked safely. Flight 9I 698, operated by the government-owned airline on an ATR 72600 twin-engine turboprop aircraft, landed at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time. Airport officials stated that a full emergency was declared on one of the runways at Terminal 1, which was cleared for the aircraft's landing. The emergency was lifted after the plane touched down safely. The incident involved the aircraft's left-hand engine. A Delhi airport source said the crew requested an emergency landing after one engine became non-operational. However, Alliance Air characterized the event differently in a statement, calling it a "priority landing" due to low oil pressure on the left-hand engine. The airline stated that no emergency was declared by the flight crew. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's aviation regulator, is investigating the incident. The aircraft has been grounded pending the probe.
