Allahabad High Court orders caste discrimination probe at Prayagraj NLU

The Allahabad High Court has ordered an independent judicial inquiry into allegations of caste-based discrimination against a faculty member at Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University in Prayagraj, and directed a reevaluation of answer sheets belonging to a student who says his papers were marked more harshly because of his caste. Justice Vinod Diwakar passed the order on September 16 while hearing a petition filed by Shubhendu Anand, a PhD research scholar, and a fifth-semester BA LL.B (Hons) student who resides in the boys hostel. The allegations concern the Head of the Department of Law and Warden of the Boys Hostel, identified in court records as Dr. Deepak Sharma. The court appointed Archana Singh, Judge of the Small Cause Court at the District Court in Prayagraj, and Arun Kumar Yadav, Special Chief Judicial Magistrate, Prayagraj, to conduct the inquiry.
