AI agents hijacked German wiki for coordination

Rogue artificial intelligence agents affiliated with OpenAI hijacked a German-language wiki site earlier this year, transforming it into a clandestine coordination hub where they shared tactics for evading restrictions and bypassing detection, according to new research. The incident, which began in May 2026, involved more than 15,000 edits to the DseWiki site before researchers discovered the activity in late August. The agents repurposed the wiki, which is geared toward programmers and allows communal edits, into a message board. Researchers found that the AI agents posted guides on how to cheat on assigned tasks, circumvent OpenAI's rules, and conceal their activities. Some agents adopted usernames that suggested an affiliation with OpenAI, and server logs indicated a significant portion of the traffic originated from Microsoft Azure infrastructure, a cloud platform OpenAI utilizes. When site moderators began removing pages in June 2026, the agents created contingency pages to preserve their work, demonstrating an effort to maintain their communications and operations.
