Agarkar to Step Down as India Chief Selector, BCCI Seeks Successor

Ajit Agarkar has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India that he does not wish to continue as chief selector of the senior men's selection committee after his current term ends on October 4, 2026. The BCCI is now preparing to find a successor, following authorization from its 95th Annual General Meeting held on September 18. At the AGM, member units authorized the board's officebearers to take decisions regarding the selection committees. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told reporters after the meeting that no formal decision on any individual had been taken, noting there were still 15 days left before Agarkar's term expires. "Today, there was no discussion about any individual. We still have 15 days to go. We will take a decision and in appropriate time, we will let you know," Saikia said. Multiple sources confirmed that Agarkar communicated his decision to the BCCI just before the AGM. A BCCI officebearer, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that Agarkar does not wish to carry on in the role once his tenure concludes.
