Adani Group unveils Bengal investment roadmap, hospital plan

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held a foundation ceremony on September 24 for the proposed 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir hospital in New Town near Kolkata. Adani said the group plans to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035 across several sectors, while the healthcare project is expected to cost more than ₹4,000 crore. Neither figure represents completed investment. The proposed facility is planned on about 51 to 51.75 acres and will include a medical college and research facilities, according to project statements. Adani said it is expected to generate about 10,000 jobs and treat more than 200,000 inpatients and two million outpatients annually. Those are projections; the reports do not establish that construction has begun or set out a timetable for completion. Project descriptions say half of the hospital’s beds are intended for economically weaker patients. One report said the allocation could cover people enrolled in state or central government health insurance programmes. Final eligibility rules and operating arrangements were not detailed in the reports.
