Aamir Khan to Receive SGIFF Screen Icon Award

Aamir Khan is scheduled to receive the Screen Icon Award at the 37th Singapore International Film Festival and attend a 25th-anniversary screening of Lagaan, the festival announced. Khan is also set to take part in its In Conversation With series, with director Ashutosh Gowariker expected to join him for the screening. The Singapore International Film Festival, known as SGIFF, is scheduled to run from October 21 to November 1, 2026. The announced appearances and award are planned events; the festival has not yet taken place. Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, released in 2001, was directed by Gowariker and starred Khan. Its story follows villagers in colonial India who challenge a British officer’s tax demands through a cricket match. The film received an Academy Award nomination for best foreign-language film at the 2002 ceremony. SGIFF also plans to present its Cinema Honorary Award to Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda. His film Look Back is scheduled to screen at the festival, where it will have its Southeast Asian premiere. Koreeda is among the filmmakers and performers announced for the In Conversation With program.
