An 84-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in Corby, Northamptonshire. Charlie Watt sustained serious injuries in a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Astra on Cottingham Road at approximately 4:30 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2026. He passed away in hospital the following day, Sunday, August 23, 2026. Mr. Watt had recently celebrated his 84th birthday on Monday, August 17, 2026. His family released a heartfelt tribute, describing him as a "much-loved dad, grandad and great grandad" and a "truly special, one-of-a-kind character" who would not be forgotten. They noted his wonderful sense of humor and many stories, adding that "there is an enormous emptiness where he should be." The family also shared that August 23 would have been his late wife's birthday, stating, "They are now together again." They remembered Mr. Watt's life as being "full of love, memories and plenty of laughter," and that even at 84, he remained "a big kid" whose stories would be told for generations. Following the collision, a 46-year-old man from Corby was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
