82-Year-Old Man Dies After Beach Sunbed Fight in Greece

An 82-year-old man died after a physical altercation over a sunbed at a popular beach on the Athenian Riviera in Greece on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at Vouliagmeni beach shortly before 10 a.m. local time on September 20, 2026. The man, who was visiting the seaside with his wife, became involved in a verbal dispute with a 76-year-old man he did not know over the availability of sun loungers. According to reports, the argument escalated into a physical fight, with witnesses stating that others joined the confrontation. The Greek state broadcaster ERT reported that people who were with the 76-year-old man also participated. During the scuffle, the 82-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest. CPR was administered at the scene, and a defibrillator was reportedly used before an ambulance arrived. He was transported to Asklepieion hospital in Voula in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at approximately 11 a.m. Police arrested the 76-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who was with him at the scene. The 76-year-old man remains in custody at the Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni Police Station.
