5 undertrials assault Bengaluru prison warden
Five undertrial prisoners, accused in the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, allegedly assaulted and attempted to strangle a prison warden at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on September 2, 2026. An FIR has been registered against the five inmates, identified as Mohammed Muzammil, Abdul Shafgan, Mohammed Rizwan, Niyaz, and Kalandar Shafi, following a complaint lodged by the victim, warden Manjunath. The incident reportedly stemmed from an earlier dispute over prison rules. According to officials, Manjunath had, on August 22, prevented the inmates from carrying additional, unauthorized articles into the prison during a transfer to Annex1 building. This action allegedly led to hostility. On September 2, Manjunath went to Annex1 to gather information for a videoconference. During his visit, Mohammed Muzammil allegedly confronted him, initiating an argument. The situation escalated quickly, with Muzammil reportedly punching Manjunath in the face and nose, causing bleeding injuries. The other four accused then allegedly joined in, dragging the warden into a room where they continued the assault and attempted to strangle him.
