49ers Quietly Sign Kyle Shanahan to Contract Extension

The San Francisco 49ers have quietly signed head coach Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension during the offseason, securing his future with the franchise beyond the 2027 season. The deal, reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero, was completed without public announcement and its specific terms, including length and financial details, were not disclosed. Shanahan, 46, is now in his 10th season as the team's head coach. His previous contract was widely believed to run through the 2027 season. The extension was finalized during the same offseason in which Shanahan was involved in a serious car crash in July, an accident that caused broken ribs and a broken left hand and limited his participation at the start of training camp. The announcement followed the team's season-opening 27-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Australia on Thursday. The win improved Shanahan's overall record with the 49ers to 83-67, including a 9-5 mark in the playoffs. He has led San Francisco to two Super Bowl appearances and four NFC Championship games. Shanahan was hired by the 49ers in February 2017.
