49ers Agree To Sign Brandin Cooks To Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a deal to sign veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks to their practice squad, according to a person familiar with the agreement, adding an experienced target to a receiving corps thinned by injuries. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the signing. The deal was first reported Tuesday. Cooks, who turns 33 on Friday, joins San Francisco after spending last season with New Orleans and Buffalo, where he recorded 24 receptions for 279 yards across 15 games. He became a free agent in March and had not signed with a team before committing to the 49ers. He had visited the Baltimore Ravens for a tryout last week but left without a contract. The move addresses a position group hit hard over the first two weeks of the season. The 49ers lost key contributor Demarcus Robinson to a high ankle injury in Sunday's win over Miami, and he is expected to miss at least a few weeks. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said an injured reserve placement may be in store for Robinson.
