27 killed in Zimbabwe minibus-truck crash

A head-on collision between a minibus carrying church members and a haulage truck in central Zimbabwe killed 27 people and injured seven others on Friday evening, August 28, 2026. The crash occurred along the Harare-Masvingo Highway near Chivhu, approximately 130 kilometers south of the capital, Harare. Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the death toll on Saturday, August 29. He stated that the truck, which was registered outside Zimbabwe, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with the oncoming minibus. The impact caused the minibus to catch fire, reducing it to a charred shell.
